Description
Amtrak’s special service receptacles are customized versions of the standard Pyle-National MU (multiple unit 27 pole receptacles), tailored to meet specific requirements. The primary distinction in these receptacles lies in their uniquely keyed housings, which are designed to prevent accidental inter-mating with other 27 pole jumpers.
These receptacles can be provided either with or without leads, adhering to Amtrak’s standards for wire configuration. This includes 1-#10 wire, five shield twisted pairs, and the remaining wires of #12 gauge. To avoid mis-mating, the jumpers for these receptacles are also keyed differently from standard 27 pole jumpers.
An additional feature of these receptacles is the blue-painted plug housings, visually aligning with the corresponding blue receptacles. This not only aids in identification but also ensures consistency in appearance. Specialized jumpers, designated for use between locomotives and between locomotives and lead cars, are marked with a “LOCO” suffix in their part number. This suffix indicates a unique wiring circuitry, distinguishing them from standard car-to-car jumpers and highlighting that they are not electrically interchangeable. This attention to detail in design and functionality makes Amtrak’s special service receptacles a reliable and essential component for railway systems.
