Floating Mate Connector Series built for modular battery systems
Endicott, NY – December 2025 — Amphenol Industrial Operations announced the Floating Mate Connector Series, a compact, high-current hybrid interface engineered for modular battery architectures where drawers, slide-in power shelves, or serviceable energy modules must connect reliably at the rack or cabinet level. As energy storage systems (ESS) and electrified platforms continue to push higher power density into tighter mechanical envelopes, designers are increasingly adopting modular, replaceable building blocks to reduce downtime and simplify maintenance. The Floating Mate Connector Series supports that design approach by combining high-voltage power contacts and low-voltage signal positions in a single connection point intended for repeatable insertion and removal.

In many rack and cabinet designs, the connection interface becomes a bottleneck for assembly efficiency, service workflows, and long-term reliability. Harness complexity, limited access inside enclosures, and tolerance stack-up across rails and frames can make traditional “manual plug” approaches difficult to standardize. The Floating Mate Connector Series helps address these challenges with a floating engagement concept intended to support consistent mating in drawer-style designs—reducing the number of individual connections technicians must manage during both initial build and field servicing.
Repeatable engagement for drawer-style modules
Real-world mechanical variation is unavoidable. Cabinet frames, slide rails, battery trays, and module housings can introduce offset during insertion, especially in high-density enclosures where clearances are limited. The Floating Mate Connector Series is designed with guidance and floating features intended to help accommodate typical alignment variation during engagement. For designers, this supports a serviceable architecture where modules can be inserted and removed without manually handling multiple cables—helping simplify maintenance, reduce rework risk, and support faster module swaps in systems built for uptime.
For battery-based designs, the goal is straightforward: deliver high power at the connection interface while keeping installation and service steps consistent. Across its available layouts, the Floating Mate Connector Series is positioned to support high power density while maintaining a practical, rack-friendly interface for modular system layouts.
Hybrid power and signal in one interface
Modern battery drawers commonly require both main DC paths and low-voltage signal lines for monitoring and control. The Floating Mate Connector Series integrates power and signal positions into one hybrid interface so designers can consolidate the connection point at the rack or module boundary. This can reduce connector count, support cleaner harness routing, and improve repeatability in cabinet layouts where space and cable management are constrained. It also helps streamline service procedures—technicians engage one hybrid interface during insertion and removal rather than managing multiple separate connectors.
Key capabilities and safety features
The Floating Mate Connector Series is built around proven RADSOK® contact technology and is offered in multiple hybrid layouts to match different system architectures. Depending on configuration, it provides up to 120 A per power contact and supports 1,000–1,500 VDC designs. The platform also includes safety-minded design elements such as a finger-proof (IP2XB) power interface and support for first-mate / last-break positions for grounding or interlock-style functions where required by the system architecture.
- Hybrid interface combining high-voltage power and low-voltage signal positions
- RADSOK® high-current power contact technology for stable electrical performance
- Floating engagement concept intended to help manage alignment variation in drawer-style systems
- Finger-proof (IP2XB) power interface protection
- First-mate / last-break positions for controlled engagement sequencing
- Multiple layouts to right-size power and signal needs (2+12, 4+12, 4+12 Mini)
Designed for ESS and electrified platforms
The Floating Mate Connector Series is positioned for battery-based systems where compact packaging, repeatable engagement, and maintainability are core design objectives. Typical applications include ESS battery racks and battery drawers, removable energy modules in cabinet-style architectures, DC interfaces in power shelves, and electrified platforms that use modular battery structures. The series supports –40 °C to +125 °C operation and references commonly recognized connector standards such as UL 4128, TÜV 2PfG2740, and IEC 61984 for teams that consider standards alignment as part of design validation.
